MAP serves students with IEPs, students performing below grade level, and learners strengthening foundational skills. Every academic session is one-on-one.
Individual academic intervention & tutoring
We strengthen underlying skills while helping students access current coursework. Support may include reading, comprehension, writing, vocabulary, study strategies, math, assignments, and skills connected to applicable IEP academic goals.
Comprehensive academic assessment
A closer look at strengths and instructional needs. Depending on the student, it may examine reading, comprehension, written language, mathematics, and foundational skills. Families receive a results review and recommended next steps.
For educational planning; it does not replace school district or clinical evaluations for eligibility or diagnosis.
Reading & literacy intervention
Targeted instruction may address phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, word recognition, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Progress checks guide adjustments.
Writing intervention
We can work on sentences, paragraphs, organization, written expression, grammar, vocabulary, revising, and academic writing so students gain confidence and independence.
IEP-informed support
With family permission, we can review relevant IEP goals, accommodations, and school reports to guide academic instruction. We can reinforce related skills and attend a school or IEP meeting with the family when needed.
MAP does not provide legal representation or make IEP or placement decisions.
Progress monitoring
We check skill development over time, adjust instructional goals as needed, and give parents updates on growth and areas that still need support.
Meet where learning works
Sessions may take place at a local public library, an appropriate bookstore study area, a student’s school when approved, or virtually. Families arrange transportation to in-person locations. School sessions depend on school permission.
Virtual, one-on-one
Live instruction can include interactive activities, shared materials, and guided practice. Students need a reliable connection, a computer or tablet, and a quiet space.

A middle schooler may face grade-level reading assignments while still needing instruction in earlier reading skills. MAP looks at both the assignment and the skills underneath it, so support addresses the reason the work is difficult.

Meet the founder
Academic support that starts with understanding.
My Academic Path grew from my experience working directly with students who learn differently and need more individualized support. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Special Education, and spent seven years as a special education teacher working with students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
I saw how frustrating school becomes when the work expected at a student’s grade level is far ahead of the foundational skills they have. I created MAP to find those gaps, strengthen the foundation, and help students move toward greater confidence and independence. A grade, score, disability, or IEP never tells the whole story of a learner.
Meet Matthew
A welcoming guide for families.
Matthew is a co-owner of My Academic Path and one of the first people you may meet during your consultation. He’ll take time to learn what your family is looking for, walk you through services and packages, and help you choose a starting point that fits your child’s needs and schedule.
Matthew also oversees MAP’s finances and human resources. He helps keep services organized and the team supported, answers questions, and makes sure you understand what comes next before you enroll.

What ongoing sessions include
Individualized lesson planning, targeted materials, review of relevant academic information, progress monitoring, adjustments to instructional goals, and parent updates may be part of ongoing support. Payment schedules and full enrollment policies are provided before services begin.

Questions families often ask.
Does my child need an IEP?
No. MAP also serves students performing below grade level or experiencing academic difficulties without an IEP or 504 Plan.
Is MAP traditional tutoring?
MAP can help with coursework, but its primary focus is finding and strengthening the foundational skills behind a student’s difficulty.
What skills do you support?
Support can include foundational reading, comprehension, writing, vocabulary, mathematics, study and organizational skills, and grade-level coursework, based on the student’s needs.
What happens during the free consultation?
We discuss academic history, current challenges, school performance, goals, and possible next steps. You may meet Matthew, who can explain services and packages.
Is the assessment required before sessions?
Not necessarily. Recent school evaluations or other academic information may be enough to guide a starting plan. We’ll discuss whether additional assessment would help.
Can MAP review an IEP or work on its goals?
With parent or guardian permission, MAP can use relevant IEP information to guide instruction and reinforce related academic skills. The school-based team and family make official IEP decisions; MAP does not replace that team.
Will you help with homework?
Yes, when it supports the student’s goals. We also spend time on underlying skills so the student can become more independent.
How often and how long will my child attend?
Frequency and duration depend on the child’s starting point, goals, attendance, and response to instruction. We discuss a recommendation together and monitor progress rather than promise a fixed timeline.
How will I know if my child is progressing?
We monitor targeted skills over time, adjust instruction based on performance, and share updates about growth and continuing needs.
Do you guarantee grade-level results?
No. Growth varies by student. Our goal is meaningful, measurable progress from each learner’s starting point.
Are sessions one-on-one and where are they held?
Yes. Sessions may be virtual or at a local public library, suitable bookstore study area, or school when permitted. Parents arrange transportation to an agreed in-person location.
What is the cancellation policy?
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or request a reschedule. With timely notice, a session may be rescheduled based on availability or credited when applicable.
Each family has one courtesy late cancellation every six months. After that, a cancellation within 24 hours is charged the full session fee. No-shows are charged the full fee. Sudden illness or emergencies may be considered case by case.
Late arrivals still end at the scheduled time. If MAP starts late, the full instructional time or an appropriate adjustment is provided. If MAP cancels, any payment for that session can be credited or refunded. Repeated missed recurring sessions may affect a reserved time slot after communication with the family.
